Red or Blue? Red or Blue? Choose between the red or blue pill.
The red pill represents living in truth and reality, whereas the blue pill represents living in ignorance and bliss. This is the familiar scene from the movie The Matrix. Though The Matrix came out a while ago, the options haven’t changed, and the matrix still exists. What’s changed is the thinking that we don’t have a choice in the matter.
We just go along humdrum in the same routine allowing adulting, life’s situations, and people, to dupe us into believing that we are powerless and have no control over our happiness. Instead of seeing that we have a choice, we get suckered into believing that the decisions are automatic or this is what “you must do” or “this happened, so I had to.”
This thinking is a sure fire eliminator of happiness and the reason why a lot of people in today’s world are unhappy. Life isn’t about the red or blue pill. Life is about choices, and the mere fact that we have a choice is ultimate power.
Flashback to last week, where one day I woke up in a pool of warm yellow pee, compliments of my toddler who loves to sleep in between mommy and daddy. Why she pees on my side of the bed is mind-boggling. Go pee on your father’s side. Anyways, I digress. Not only did I wake up in pee, but also my nose kept getting a whiff of this awful smell. It smelled like doo-doo, but I couldn’t locate it. Aha! Across the doorway was a brown forbidden sea of dog diarrhoea. …not in one corner but in multiple corners. So pee on one side…and dog poop in corners of the room with the toddler yelling, “Ewww.” Blue Pill or Red Pill.
Red: I’m pissed, and this is some bs.
Blue Pill: I wonder if I can just act like this didn’t exist.
Me: This sucks….yet and still, I choose Happiness.
I’ve made the decision to realise even in unpredictable situations I still have power. My power is my choice, and I choose to be happy. I refused to give up my power to Sugar Honey Ice Tea with a cup full of pee.
Every day I make the decision not to be powerless. My choice isn’t in taking a red or blue pill. My choice isn’t in the truth or ignorance. My choice is happiness. I’ve made a decision to be happy and its power in deciding to choose happiness every minute and hour of the day.
Here are some ways to help you make the decision to choose happiness.
1. Take a moment to breathe. 10 Long deep breaths. (It’s calming and allows you a moment to pause).
2. Positive self-talk: this is not the end of the world. This will pass.
3. Determine how long your moment will be. You can’t control everything that happens to you or around you, but you can decide how long a moment will last. Will this be a minute….or will it consume the entire day.
4. Include something that brings you joy throughout the day.
5. Accept your power. Choose Happiness.
