Fierce Grace: Hot Yoga London

Fierce Grace

Fierce Grace was set up by the team who introduced the Bikram Yoga revolution into the UK in 1994. Today their experienced practitioners bring classes together based on classical hatha yoga, Bikram and Ashtanga yoga, sequenced in ways that adhere to ancient yogic principles in the form of Fierce Grace.

I was introduced to Fierce Grace by my dear friend Suzy and as someone who’s dipped into yoga here and there; although I really enjoyed the spirituality and whole system Kundalini offers, for me I’ve never fully felt at home with yoga until now.

But, what comes with hot yoga is a full detox experience that is perfect for loosening the whole body giving you the ability to go deep into poses. It is perfect for those with injuries and has been wonderful for my lower back issues and stress levels.

I recently enjoyed a 30 day trial of unlimited classes with the Brixton Fierce Grace and loved how down to earth the teachers were, how chilled the whole place is and the variety of people in the class in terms of age, sex, physique and ability.

From the yoga shy to the yoga bunny all the classes Fierce Grace offer are designed to be accessible, effective and based on the same core poses and principles, each with a different emphasis, duration and intensity.

Balanced Being Verdict

Each and every time I left this place I felt so relaxed and cleansed with my first class there being a particularly spiritual one for me. As the tightness in my lower back released in one particular move, it had also been the first time in months I’d really learned to let go and relax.

Don’t get me wrong, I still pound it out in the gym and indulge in strength training now my back is stronger, but there’s something completely different about this practice that connected with my body and mind. I have to admit that I had to hold back some tears as the stress I was under, at the time, left my whole body during the class.

But what’s very clever and unique about Fierce Grace, is how they have nailed their branding. It is cool, yet still accessible to everyone using people of all shapes, sizes and walks of life in their advertising; that’s so key when you’re trying to reach a large demographic.

At no point do you feel intimidated about taking a class and this is also very much a ‘mirror selfie’ free environment. Although my yogic skills are still limited, the teachers and people around me never made me feel like I didn’t fit in.

In fact, all the teachers make any newbies very welcome, ensuring they are aware of any injuries and stipulating to all in the class that if you needed to step out of any positions you can do until you’re ready to return to the class.
